Domestic Violence
Have you experienced or witnessed domestic violence? Has your child been exposed? Domestic violence is a complex, and common, family dynamic. If you’re feeling confused, there is help.
Substance Abuse
Do you love someone with a substance use disorder? Do your well-intentioned interventions just don’t seem to work? Find hope with a model of support that is compassionate, kind, and based in science.
Elaine’s Story
Social work is a second career for me, and, like most people, key life experiences have shaped and influenced who I am, and lead me to my journey of becoming a therapist. My own therapy has shown me that it is possible to find help, to have hope, to heal, and to live life mindfully with both boundaries and joy.
I am also an adoptive parent. Adoption is often viewed as an occasion to celebrate, and indeed for me, adopting my son remains one of the most joyous occasions of my life. At the same time, I acknowledge that adoption - by definition a separation from a child’s first mother - is rooted in loss and trauma. I didn’t begin my adoption journey with this awareness, but over the years and with the help of informed and compassionate mentors, I am now attuned to this fundamental piece of the adoptee identity. My work with adoptive families is informed by this perspective, because I have seen that it is the foundation upon which adoptive families find more helpful ways of navigating the complex issues that can arise within the family dynamic.
I am here to support you. Whatever the trauma may be, I will help you, your child and family to (1) communicate and interact in ways that invite kindness rather than conflict, (2) reduce the distressing effects of trauma such as anxiety, depression, and dysregulation and (3) consistently live life with a feeling of control, empowerment, and peace.
Take your first step towards help, hope and healing today.
